In praise of Peter Laing Miniatures: Part 2

In my recent blog entry about Peter Laing Miniatures I mentioned that he produced a very wide range of 15mm-scale figures. Ian Dury kindly sent me a scanned copy of one of the later catalogues, and I have converted it into PDF format so that anyone who is interested can download it from here.

The following is a section from the contents page of the catalogue, and it helps to give some idea of the range of figures produced by Peter Laing Miniatures.

  1. One of the great advantages of Peter Laing figures was that he actually sent you then - often return of post - with always a few extra and sample figures , whilest people like Minifigs took your money and made you wait for weeks and weeks !

  2. Mosstrooper,

You are spot-on! Peter Laing's customer service was exemplary ... unlike - as you mention - some of his competitors!

    All the best,

    Bob

  4. Barry Carter,

Nowadays the only manufacturer whose customer service is as good as Peter Laing's was is Irregular Miniatures.

    All the best,

  8. These are a long time before mine, but there is something classy about a catalogue that uses "NB" to draw your attention to something.

  9. Arquinsiel,

It is so different from the modern word-processed and desktop published catalogues that we have nowadays.

Reading it brought back lots of memories.

    All the best,

    Bob

  10. Thanks for putting up the catalogue, brings back memories, even though my collection is very small of this manufacturer's range. http://onesidedminiaturewargamingdiscourse.blogspot.com.au/2013/07/peter-laing-athenian-hoplites-and.html

  12. I bought a number of Peter Laign miniatures in the early 1980s. It was an strange arrangement. His daughter liver in my area in Canada and Peter used to come for a visit from the UK once a year. We would buy the miniatures from our local shop, pay the shop owner after the miniatures arrived, and the shop owner would then drive over to Peter's daughter's place and give her the money. That way Peter had some extra spending money when he arrive in Vancouver, BC, Canada.

  13. Eric Holtz,

What an interesting and unusual arrangement ... and rather typical of the way Peter ran his company!

    All the best,

    Bob
